Gus Sentementes was a journalist who worked for The Baltimore Sun. He covered the final years of Bethlehem Steel Corp. for the newspaper, getting to know company leadership and telling the stories of its union workers at its other major steel plant at Sparrows Point in Maryland. This iconic plant in Bethlehem ceased operations in 1995 and the company filed for bankruptcy protection in a New York federal courtroom in 2001, where Mr. Sentementes was present to record the moment in history for the newspaper: Beth Steel ceased operating when it was sold in 2003, one of dozens of American steel producers to fall in the late 20th and early 21st century.
